How PubWarn may contribute developing the safety and security KPI for airports
Airports are complex institutions with numerous interconnected aspects, making it difficult to develop a suitable method to evaluate performance. However, interest in airport performance evaluation has grown recently, particularly with changes in ownership patterns. Airport managers have been challenged by the increased interest in measuring airport performance, which has resulted in the adoption of new measures that represent airports’ long-term goals. Performance measurement is the process of evaluating the efficiency of a course of action, and can be done for a variety of reasons, such as validating safety and security protocols, assessing potential environmental effects, and assessing the effectiveness of various aspects of an airport from a financial and operational standpoint. Key performance indicators (KPIs) are required for performance evaluation and improvement at an airport, as they assist firms in assessing the degree to which they are accomplishing their goals. [1]
Below are the activities considered to measure and analyse the performance of airports. The areas of activities are:
- Airport Operations : Which includes all motions and flows at the airport.
- Airport economy: Including expenses, revenue, and profit.
- Environmental concerns at airports : Include those related to noise, water quality, energy use, etc.
- Airport safety and security : Activities include addressing both human-made threats and efforts to avoid and manage accidents (safety) (security).
- Airport customer service : Responsible for measuring many aspects of passenger satisfaction. [2]
In this blog Airport safety and security will be discussed since PubWarn focuses on safety and security incidents. The key indicators are shown below for evaluating the performance of Airports in terms of safety and security.
- Number of aircraft safety incidents
- Number of incidents at security checkpoints
- Time between shut-down and reopening in case of breach of security
- Time it takes to business operations to begin in case of evacuation
- Taken time and grade of destruction when returning to normality
A draft set of key performance indicators has been created, and they will be evaluated and verified in following phase. The recommended set of KPIs and how PubWarn develops them for safety and security is succinctly described below.[3]
As a result, the purpose of this blog was to mention about how airports can develop their security and safety KPIs with the help of the PubWarn. Since the security and safety of the airport are very crucial, especially in emergencies, it requires fast and quality coordination and communication. In this case, it will be meaningful to benefit from the mentioned features of PubWarn.
